Neuroepithelial cells in the optic proliferation center of Drosophila larval brain as a model system of mammalian neural stem cells
We consider postembryonic neuroepithelial stem cells (pNESCs) in the Drosophila larval optic proliferation center (OPC)as a model of mammalian neural stem cells and have been screening for novel genes involved in the proliferation and differentiation of pNESCs to further isolate their mammalian homologs and thereby elucidate the mechanism of regulation of the proliferation and differentiation of mammalian neural stem cells.
